Stainless steel is an alloy of steel, chromium and small amounts of other metallic elements that comes in various grades, the chromium and other elements are used to protect the metal from corrosion and other kinds of damage. 316L wire, sometimes referred to as ‘elite’ wire, is marine grade material that possesses less carbon (no more than 0.03%) and molybdenum making it more hard-wearing and a better option for outdoor and high temperature applications than other types of stainless steel. SS material has a much lower resistance so vaping coils made from 316L tend to have a much lower resistance compared to coils made from kanthal and nichrome. SS coils can be very good to use in temperature control modes that some mods feature, and are often commented to provide a cleaner flavour compared to other coil materials.
